The More People I Meet, The More I Like My Cat

About this blog

This thing here is called a blog. It is sort of like a journal, only intead of it being private and secret, everyone in the world can read it. Which is fine, if you’re an exhibitionist. Bear in mind though, when I say everyone, I mean everyone – your mum, your ex, that creepy guy who won’t believe you’re not interested, your boss, your extended family, that girl who kept trying to get you expelled during high school – so it’s best to be careful about what you write. You never know who might stumble across it.

As for this blog in particular, it’s probably about politics, science, phisosophy, social science, technology, personal life and interests, and whatever happens to have caught my attention at the time. This probably means the writing here will be divided between intelligent, insightful musings, angry rants, and ecstatic ramblings. And cats, of course.

About the author

Ace is a five foot nine inches tall young woman who wants to be a writer, but doesn’t have enough patience or long enough attention span. Her interests are somewhat eclectic, ranging from science news (she reads New Scientist magazine a lot) to fashion to …odder things, like Doctor Who and microraptor artwork or whatever her fad of the moment is. The love of Converse seems to be a constant though.

As a child Ace was precocious and intelligent and decidedly strange. As a teenager she cut back on the strange a bit and was merely gifted and eccentric. That she ended up a mediocre adult must be some kind of accomplishment, if a disappointing and puzzling one. While Ace has rarely understood people particularly well, apart from flashes of disturbing insight, from infanthood she has always gotten along with cats perfectly. It is Ace’s secret suspicion that she was a cat in a former life and she forgot to adjust to this one. Cats are like that.

The cat

The cat was named after Jennifer Lopez by a younger sibling when they were, indeed, much younger. Said sibling has come to regret this. Cat is generally known as Jenny, but also answers to Fang, Mr Hyde, Catface, Cat-Person, and That Bloody Furball. Alternates between two personalities, that of an introverted, affectionate cat, and Devil’s Spawn. Her arch-nemesis is Floozy Cat next door, a black, sleek, adoring feline who would love to have the cat’s family for her own, despite already having one. (It’s useful to have a spare.) When the cat isn’t defending her territory and Floozy Cat isn’t trying to steal her family, the two are fairly good friends.

LOL. Just discovered your blog. Don’t worry about the lack of patience and the short attention span. From an early age I planned to be a great novelist, downgraded my ambition to just-a-writer, and even have trouble with that. Blogging is the perfect medium for us short-span types, but better yet, it taught me that writing doesn’t have to be a sit down and grind it out ordeal. So now I write in bits and pieces, using software that lets me keep it all together. I have a non-fiction book that’s going into its 10th year or so of development, and all of it has been a learning process. Don’t give up on the writing. You have a nice style. Let it develop and find your own way to handle the longer stuff.
